A Magistrate Court in Zuba on the outskirts of Abuja has dismissed the case of assault against Senator Elisha Abbo. Abbo, the lawmaker representing Adamawa-North, was seen assaulting a woman named Osimibibra Warmate in a viral video. Afterwards, the Nigeria Police Force instituted a case of assault against him. The assault caused outrage after the video went viral and the lawmaker apologized to his victim in a televised press conference. A Magistrate Court has now dismissed the suit for lack of diligent prosecution by the police. The Magistrate, Abdullahi Ilelah, who upheld a no-case submission filed by Senator Abbo, said the police failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the lawmaker indeed assaulted Osimibibra Warmate on May 11, 2019. A Lagos police officer, Sunday Gabriel popularly known as Woko, has savagely attacked his wife with a machete for allegedly serving him a cold meal. The rape victim alleged that a four-man police team arrested her on Tuesday night, July 28 for not wearing a face mask, but, rather than take her to the station, they took her to a guest house where one of them named Inspector Peter Iba raped her all night “at gunpoint” She said they arrested her at Sakpenwan, Tai Local Government Area, for not wearing face mask while she was in transit on a Port Harcourt bound vehicle from Bori. India recorded the highest ever single-day spike of 55,078 of fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday. It was the second consecutive day the country would log over 50,000 cases, according to federal health ministry data. The new figure took the total tally to 1,638,870 cases, with recovery over 65 percent. The death toll also jumped to 35,747, with 779 people dying during the past 24 hours across the country. India is the third most COVID-affected country in the world, after the United States and Brazil, and the worst-affected in Asia. There are still 545,318 active cases admitted in hospitals in the country, while 1,057,805 people have been cured and discharged. The recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases is mainly attributed to the increased testing of samples, Xinhua reported. Over 18.8 million samples have been tested so far across the country. Dubai crown prince, Hamdan bin Mohammed has paid the hospital bill of a Nigerian family that was stranded in the country. Tijani and Suliyah Abdulkareem who welcomed their quadruplets at the Latifa Hospital for Women and Children on July 1, had no medical insurance and were indebted to the tune of $120,000. They incurred the medical bill after their babies (two boys and two girls) were placed on ventilators at the neonatal intensive care unit after being born prematurely.
