The 26 years old, who came from the wealthy Adeleke family, has over the years, proven to many that he is indeed more than just a

A baby was born ‘pregnant’ with her own sibling and needed an emergency C-section to remove it

A baby girl named Itzmara was born through a cesarean delivery. A day later, doctors performed a C-section on her too, because she had absorbed her twin in the womb. They diagnosed Itzmara with fetus-in-fetu, a rare condition where a malformed fetus is found in the body of its twin. According to the National Institutes of Health, fetus-in-fetu is very rare, with only one case occurring in about every 500,000 births. In some cases, health problems related to the condition take years to develop and aren’t treated right after birth. A baby girl named Itzmara was born through a cesarean delivery, and 24 hours later, doctors performed a C-section on her too, because she had absorbed her twin in the womb, Mamás Latinas reported in March. When the mother, Mónica Vega of Barranquilla, Colombia, had an ultrasound at seven months pregnant, doctors discovered she had two umbilical cords inside her. One connected baby Itzmara to Vega, but the other connected Itzmara to a mass that was her pa

The ₦1=$1 Fallacy

Image
Money illusion is the tendency to think in terms of nominal rather than real monetary values – one key difference being that nominal values do not take inflation into account. For example, when the money deposited in a savings account accrues 8% annual interest rate, my nominal return at the end of the year is 8%. My real return, though, depends on inflation and can turn negative if inflation rises above 8%. The interest might look attractive, but after one year, my purchasing power has actually eroded as prices of goods and services increased faster than my wealth during the period. This means I can afford to buy less. As the money illusion illustrates, obsessing over nominal values is irrational as what we care about is how much we can afford. However, it is prevalent in the world of psychology and economics. ₦ 1 = $1 = Best Economy Nigeria’s obsession with the nominal exchange rate cannot be overstated. Sites that regularly display parallel market exchange rates have become extre

Today's bible teaching: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23 King James Version (KJV) 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. source: https://ift.tt/2OY8Cqx https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

We have no form of security when shooting movies –Kiki Omeili

Image
Actress Kiki Omeili Doctor turned actress, Kiki Omeili, has lamented that no security is provided for filmmakers when shooting movies. The Anambra State-born actress said there had been cases where producers were attacked while shooting movies. Omeili said this in an interview with Tontrends. She said, “When it comes to shooting movies, sadly, we don’t have any security. There are always too many cases of producers crying out on social media about how people have attacked them and are not allowing them to film. Sometimes, they post videos and pictures of how some of their crew members got injured. I don’t think it’s very nice. “I don’t think the government is doing enough to support Nollywood. We are supposed to have security and assurance that we can film wherever. As a matter of fact, we shouldn’t ordinarily have any business filming on the road, if we had a film village.  If such things were provided, we would not have any reason to come out and face these challenges. We do

The rally, which began at the Kwara State Banquet Hall, saw the women walk through the popular Ahmadu Bello Way through to Challenge, Post Office-Sulu-Gambari Road and back to the starting point. Most of the participants carried placards with inscriptions like Stop Child Abuse, Walk Against Rape, End Rape, Keep Hope Alive, and Kwara Says No to Domestic Violence. Themed ‘Count me in, together we move Kwara forward’, the governor’s wife said the advocacy walk was to create awareness on the prevalence of gender-based violence with a view to stemming the tide. “Each year, on November 25, the world commemorates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, followed by 16 days of activism against gender based violence, which culminate in Human Rights Day on December 10. Stigmatisation of people living with HIV fuelling spread of virus

Image
As the world marks the 2019 World Aids Day today, stigmatisation and discrimination against Persons Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) remain the twin factors frustrating a successful fight against the dreaded scourge. Not only have they prevented people from coming forward to know their status and consequently commence early treatment where result turns out positive, these factors also pose a threat to meeting the 2030 global target to end AIDS. For PLWHAs, the constant psychological trauma they contend with at treatment centres and in communities where they live further makes life difficult. In fact, the reality of living with a life-threatening ailment finds expression daily in the discriminating and stigmatising behaviours directed at them within their environment. For instance, “You this dead woman, a living corpse, leave my house!” was how Funmi Okafor, a mother of four children was welcomed as she returned home from the hospital after receiving the news that she tested positive t

African politicians now staging civilian coups – Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan in his speech at the 17th convocation of Igbinedion University Okada, where he was conferred with the honorary degree of doctor of science, alleged that African politicians are now staging civilian coups. The former President stated that these politicians are now replacing military coup with civilian coup because they want to own an office. Jonathan backed his claim with the violence witnessed during the governorship elections in his home state Bayelsa and in Kogi state where a woman was burnt alive in her house. “Let me plead with my fellow politicians, they should stop killing the people, destroying properties because people want to own office,” he said. “What happened in the last governorship elections in my state, Bayelsa and Kogi state, especially in Kogi state where a woman was burnt alive in her house, is something that should not happen in any normal society. I’ve not made money from Nollywood – Dayo Amusa laments

Image
Actress and filmmaker, Dayo Amusa has lamented over not making any money from Nollywood even after shooting 12 movies and still counting. Amusa in the interview with The Sun disclosed that she does other things that generate money for her but however expressed hope of making money from Nollywood someday. “I do a lot of things that generate money for me. I have always done business even before I came into Nollywood and I am still in business. I came into Nollywood as an actress before becoming a movie producer and to date, I have shot 12 movies and still counting. Truth be told, I have not made money from Nollywood yet. After 12 movies I have not made the kind of money that I should make but I know I will make it. You see, there is a difference between making a huge profit and then, just getting your money back on your investment. I haven’t broken even” she said. She also disclosed that her major challenge is that her movies are not yet being shown in cinemas. “I love doing good mo

Aisha Buhari misquoted by media ― Governors Forum

Image
The thirty- six state Governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, Saturday night stated that the circulating remark by the wife of the president, Mrs Aisha Buhari was misquoted by media reporters. A statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, NGF, Abdulrazaque Bello Barkindo and entitled, ”That Aisha Buhari’s rebuke”, read; “that Aisha Buhari’s rebuke at the National Mosque during the National Executive Council meeting of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) could not have come at a better time. “That the nation’s religious leaders have to be told by none other than the First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, that things are getting out of hand, is an indictment not just of governors, as the reporters would like the general public to believe, but of the nation’s entire political elite. “Unfortunately, the haste to paint state governors with one brush or the race to hit the front pages in this case, destroyed the message that the First Lady seeks to con

Border closure: ‘We are getting more patronage and high profits’ – Farmers in Kwara State celebrate

Image
Farmers and local foodstuff sellers in Kwara South Senatorial District say the partial closure of the nation’s land borders is bringing them more patronage and high profits. Alhaji Sanusi Adebayo, a yam dealer in Ajase-Ipo, said the preference for foreign rice had always impacted negatively on his sales and income, but the situation had changed. “The high preference for foreign rice has never helped our businesses. It has been a problem we have been contending with as traders in yam and other local commodities for a very long time. It has always been a kind of stiff market competition between foreign rice and local foodstuffs like yams, cassava, beans. “Even for those of us involved in local rice business, it was the same low patronage until this partial closure of the border changed things for the better. I can tell you that since the closure of borders, things have changed positively; apart from the increase in patronage, our income has also been boosted. Some of our members who

BBNaija’s Ceec tackles Twitter users trolling her for showing solidarity to Uti Nwachukwu

Image
So here is the gist. Some Twitter users, mostly BBNaija’s Tacha fans, have been on social media all day, calling for actor, Uti Nwachukwu, to be dropped by a European Association which he represents. According to them , Uti is in the habit of trolling women and should not be affiliated to such an organization. Fraud allegations: Group urges FG to protect Onyema

Image
A rights group, the Pan African Movement for Peace, Human Rights and Social Justice (PAMPHRSJ), has urged the federal government to “protect” the embattled Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, on the allegations of bank fraud and money laundering by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). The group also condemned individuals and groups who have by their words and actions, passed a “guilty verdict” on the Nigerian businessman. In a press conference held Friday, in Warri, Delta state, convener of the movement, Rex Anighoro, further frowned on the body language of the presidency regarding the matter, following its failure to refute comments on social media, by one of its aide. Positing that it was with “rude shock” it learnt of the fraud indictment, the PAMPHRSJ assured that millions of youths across the African continent are set to embark on a solidarity march to show their stand with the airline CEO. Speaking alongside its co-convener, Amb. Sixtus Obinna

Why Dakolo’s case could not stand – IDA Sec-Gen

Image
Busola Dakolo’s rape allegation against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA, could not stand because our laws are laws of evidence, which she could not produce at the time of hearing in court. This much was enunciated by Barr. Olivia Nwachukwu, General Secretary, Federation of International Lawyers, FIDA recently at an event organised to flag-off 16 Days Activism in Lagos by NOPRIN Foundation and Project Alert. Responding to a comment by one of the participants that the judgment on that case could discourage other victims who may be willing to come out, Nwachukwu said, “Our laws, especially the laws that we practise in Nigeria are laws of evidence and because Busola Dakolo’s case is sort of time-bound – from what we heard, the incident happened 20 years – to that extent the evidence would have been dissipated. “Being that our laws are laws of evidence, she has to prosecute that matter to a logical conclusion; she has to produce evidence.
