Fake lawyer defrauds victim of N300,000

EFCC

The Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a 53-year-old man, Muhammed Bolaji Abdulraheem, for parading himself as a lawyer and obtaining money under false pretence. Abdulraheem was accused of using dubious means to defraud his client, one Mallam Yusuf Bello of N300,000.

Bello, in his petition to the EFCC, which was assigned to the Counter Terrorism and General Investigations Section of the Commission, alleged that Abdulraheem recovered the sum of N300,000 from his debtor and claimed that the money was in the custody of the EFCC.

When confronted, the suspect confessed that the money was not taken to the EFCC.
The suspect also destroyed his statement where he had earlier admitted that he was called to the Nigerian Bar and had been practicing law for more than two decades.
This followed the discovery by the Commission that the suspect never graduated from the Nigerian Law School as he failed the examinations twice.

The suspect will soon be charged to court.
