Court remands ex-Kaduna governor, Mukhtar Yero, three others in prison
A former governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Yero, and three other persons have been remanded in prsion by Justice Mohammed Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna.
The three others are former Minister of State for Power, Nuhu Wya; a former Secretary to Kaduna State government, Hamza Ishaq; and a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna, Haruna Gaya.
EFCC had dragged the politicians before the court on a four count charge bordering on money laundering, criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of public fund, and breach of trust.
Lead defence counsel, Yunus Ustaz Usman (SAN) made application for bail orally but Justice Shuaibu refused.
The Court ruled that formal applications for bail of the accused must be filed. He therefore adjourned the matter to the 6th of June, 2018 for hearing of bail application. He also ruled that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
The EFCC had invited Yero, Mr Ishaq and Mr Gaya on Friday last week over the alleged mismanagement of N750 million campaign funds in the year 2015.
They were asked to explain the various roles they played in the distribution of the campaign fund meant for the state in the buildup to the 2015 general elections.
