Officials of the Jigawa state government were attacked by an angry mob yesterday September 29. The attack occurred after the officials embarked on a flood assessment of the Ganuwar Kuka area of the state. Some residents of the area alleged that the Jigawa state government officials were attacked to register their displeasure against the state government over an alleged lackluster attitude towards the flood which has affected eight local government areas under the Hadejia emirate. The Education Secretary of Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto, Ishaka Abdullahi has been arrainged before Justice Malami Umar Dogondaji of the State High Court for fraud in the federal government school feeding programme. Abdullahi was arraigned on a six-count charge, bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N429,000 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). His arraignment came after an intelligence which established that the nationwide Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP) of the Federal Government for primary school pupils has been hijacked by some fraudulent elements in Sabon Birni Local Government. The commission’s investigations revealed that one Hassi Abdullahi, who was appointed one of the cooks in the programme and had a Union Bank account number 0077129142 died on March 18, 2019, yet funds were still being channeled to her account from the HGSFP account, totaling N429, 000 which was fraudulently withdrawn. The US Department of Justice is expected to sue Google as soon as next week. It’s believed that the lawsuit accuses Google of putting search rivals at a disadvantage. The department is also said to be investigating search advertising under Google’s search box. Google has faced several legal challenges in recent years regarding its search and advertising business, and it looks like the US is next in line to take aim at the company. According to Reuters , citing three sources familiar with the matter, the US Department of Justice is set to file a lawsuit against Google as soon as next week. It’s alleged that the department is also calling on state attorneys general to sign onto the suit. The lawsuit reportedly accuses Google of trying to put search rivals such as Bing at a disadvantage.
